Why I Eat Oatmeal Porridge for Breakfast 350 Days a Year?

Why I eat oatmeal porridge for breakfast nearly every day?

The answer is very simple – it helps me feel better every day. It’s not the most exciting breakfast, but it is nutritious and filling. Plus, it’s easy to make no matter where you are in the world. You don’t need a kitchen to make it. And for me that matters a lot. Because for the last 10+ years, I have been traveling extensively. And I like to eat first thing in the morning. If I eat oatmeal porridge, I can have a good breakfast easy, fast and everywhere. I don’t even have to think of it – I just make the same thing.

Here are the five reasons I choose oatmeal over other breakfast options.

And also why I eat the same thing every day.

1. It Makes Your Morning Easier

In fact, it makes your mornings much, much easier.

Because you don’t have to think of breakfast anymore. You don’t have to think of what to eat today? Where to eat breakfast? How to make it? If you can get this or that food in the country you have just arrived to? Oatmeal is available in a lot of countries around the world.

When you don’t have think of such things, you can focus on what matters to you. For me that means, I can have a much more relaxed morning, read a book, and start work better / start a day better.

2. Oatmeal Porridge Is One of the Most Nutritious and Filling Breakfast Foods Out There

Oatmeal porridge is a powerhouse of nutrition and the perfect way to start the day.

With its creamy texture, it’s the breakfast food of choice for many people. Oats are naturally rich in fibre and provide an abundance of important minerals such as magnesium, zinc, iron and even protein. Plus, they’re full of essential vitamins like B1, B2 and B6. Eating a nutritious bowl of oatmeal porridge will surely satisfy your hunger but also make sure you can tackle whatever challenges lie ahead during the day with optimum energy and efficiency.

3. It’s Quick and Easy to Make, Which Is Perfect for Busy Mornings (Any Mornings)

I use instant or quick cook oatmeal.

So all I need to prepare my bowl of oatmeal porridge is hot water. And it takes me only 5 to 10 minutes to make my breakfast.

Even hotel rooms have access to hot water and enough surfaces for a few ingredients – meaning you can enjoy a warm breakfast in no time. There’s also plenty of room to customize the porridge with fruits, nuts, cinnamon and more so that you never get bored. As such, oatmeal porridge is an ideal morning meal whether you’re at home or away. It’s also easy to make it when you are outdoors.

My go-to oatmeal porridge recipe is super simple: oats + a few dates + hot water; and that’s all.

4. Oatmeal Porridge Keeps Me Full Until Lunchtime, so I Don’t Have to Snack Before Then

Eating oatmeal porridge is a great way to start my day.

Not only is it incredibly nutritious, filling me up with vitamins and minerals, but it also keeps me full until lunchtime. Oats are a low calorie yet filling food choice that keeps cravings at bay until later in the day. This means I can focus on staying productive in the morning instead of having to pause to buy or make something mid-morning. Plus, oatmeal tastes delicious too! My go-to oatmeal porridge recipe is super simple: oats + a few dates + hot water; and that’s all.

5. Oatmeal Porridge Is Cheap

Oatmeal porridge makes a great breakfast, and, best of all, it is really affordable.

Unlike most store-bought meals and ready-made food, oatmeal porridge only needs a few basic ingredients to make an amazing meal. All you need is oats, water and “something”. And that something can be anything; I love dates, raisins, bananas. If I go with dates, my favourite, I don’t add anything else. With raisins and bananas I would also add a little bit of sugar, for better texture.

Overall, oatmeal porridge is one of the cheapest and most convenient meals out there!

I Always Feel Satisfied After Eating Oatmeal Porridge for Breakfast, Which Helps Set the Tone for the Rest of My Day

For me personally breakfast is an important part of my daily routine.

This is something I realized somewhere around 2018.

It’s one of those few things that I try to keep the same. No matter where in the world I am. And that’s a very important thing when you are traveling a lot, while also working as a digital nomad. Routine doesn’t limit you. A routine gives you freedom. With a great routine you can do much more than without one.

What do you eat for breakfast as a digital nomad / traveler?
